The wires of the Interweb were buzzing this week with the arrival of 6,900-acre High Plains Ranch on the market. And looking at all this sprawling recreational ranch has to offer, why wouldn’t they? Currently owned by Colorado businessman and philanthropist Charlie Gallagher, the ranch includes a masterful five-bedroom log home located within the 19,000-acre Grand River Ranch community, a cluster of trophy hunting and fishing ranches in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain “High Country.”
High Plains Ranch speaks to the lifestyles of the rich, famous—and hyper-kinetic. Winter outdoor sports include skiing and sledding on a private ski hill (complete with groomed trails), while a fleet of snowmobiles and other outdoor toys like ATVs, dirt bikes and—hey, why not?—a Zamboni are ready to bust out of the property’s huge equipment garage. Of course, if the private skiing and snowboarding’s not enough, the slopes of Steamboat Ski Resort and a number of other world-class Colorado ski resorts are an easy drive from the ranch. More year-round adventures await on the ranch’s paintball area and clay-shooting range, not to mention plentiful hunting and fishing opportunities. When the sun goes down, après-ski festivities can always continue into the wee hours in a 10,500-square-foot, custom-built party barn.
The Denver Post reports that Gallagher, the founder of Denver-based Gallagher Industries, acquired the land for High Plains Ranch and the Grand River Ranch development in 1999. Twelve of Grand River’s named ranches are sold, with an additional seven individual land parcels currently listed for sale.
