Congratulations to Dane Mount of Davis Vernon Real Estate for his sale of 2,480-acre McAdams Ranch in Foard County, Texas. The sale occurred on March 11 and was submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.

Located in northwest Texas, the ranch has been held under the same family ownership since the 1800s and its early stewardship by J.J. McAdams, a well-known 19th-century rancher. With terrain that offers an abundance of year-round springs and water sources, the fertile landscape here provides for excellent grasses as well as numerous creeks and draws for wildlife cover and vegetation.
The ranch is also home to some of the finest hunting in northwest Texas, including big whitetail deer and waterfowl like ducks and geese. The ranch has only been bowhunted the past few years with a strict management plan in place. There are several creeks and draws that are lined with hardwood trees for turkey roost. The ranch has been grazed for cattle recently, but still offers plenty grass and cover for the quail that are making a comeback to this area of Texas.
Along with an abundance of water that is significant to this part of north-central Texas, the ranch’s location adjacent to the Comanche Springs Astronomy Campus ensures there is minimal hunting pressure in the area and therefore a chance to grow trophy deer on this exceptional hunting property.
A number of other historic cattle ranches dot the county, which counts cattle ranching along with oil and agriculture as its chief economic drivers. Although the productivity of oil fields here has slowed in recent decades, Foard County has produced over 20 million barrels of crude since the first field was drilled in the 1920s. Set to the east of the Panhandle on the drier end of the Texas Plains, Crowell is the county seat.
