Located along a section of one of Colorado’s 11 National Scenic Byways, the Gold Belt Tour, Wilson Creek Ranch takes you deep into an scenic landscape of steep cliffs, canyons and hillsides that are home to mountain goats, elk, mule deer and more.

The ranch is almost completely surrounded by BLM land for miles and miles of wilderness to hunt or explore. Annual over-the-counter elk tags can be purchased in GMU 59 to ensure the ability to hunt each year during archery and several rifle seasons. The ranch is currently leased by a big game outfitter as well as the Rocky Mountain Anglers Club, which the new owner can continue or cancel. Southern Colorado’s Palmer Land Trust has conserved and preserved this ranch along with most of the ranches along the Shelf Road for enjoyment by future generations.

The Shelf Road section of the 135-mile Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway is a rugged and remote single-lane route between Cripple Creek and Cañon City. The scenic byway traces historic railroad and stagecoach routes leading to one of the continent’s most celebrated gold camps, three world-class fossil sites, and numerous historic sites. A few miles south of the ranch, Red Canyon Park offers a glimpse into the ancient geologic forces that sculpted this area of piñon, sage, and distinctive red-rock formations via materials deposited via drainages running down off the ancestral Rocky Mountains.
