Destination Ranch, which was listed for sale on November 9 through Legacy Properties West Sotheby’s International Realty, occupies a parcel of land at the end of a quiet road leading northwest out of Durango. The terrain here is a mix of mountain meadows and hillsides carpeted with aspens, oak and pines. Several streams flow through the ranch, supporting land that’s prime for cattle grazing as well as equestrian and other recreational activities. The rustic homestead here was used as part of the movie set for City Slickers, while a number of potential homesites offer the opportunity to develop Destination Ranch into a premier recreational retreat.
With views out over the scenic La Plata Mountains and remote expanses of San Juan National Forest at its doorstep, resident wildlife on the ranch number elk, deer, bald eagles and coyotes. The town of Durango itself offers a mix of rugged, cowboy charisma along with many upscale amenities and conveniences catering to visitors who come to the area to ski at Purgatory Mountain, ride the historic narrow-gauge railway or enjoy the area’s burgeoning craft-brewery scene. Durango is the gateway to Mesa Verde National Park as well as the magnificent desert pinnacles and spires of the Four Corners area to the southwest.
