Equestrian Estates for Sale: 5 Luxury Properties for Horse Lovers

Equestrian estate for sale in California

News broke last week that Bill Gates purchased two empty lots of land adjacent to his Wellington, Florida, equestrian estate for $5 million. According to this report in the Miami Herald, the billionaire Microsoft founder and philanthropist now owns four of the six properties in Mallet Hill Court, an exclusive enclave of equestrian ranches and facilities in southern Florida’s horse country. Bill and Melinda Gates’ daughter, Jennifer, is an avid rider and competes in equestrian competitions globally. Apparently this recent purchase puts Gates one step closer to owning the entirety of 21.3-acre Mallet Hill Court, a mere jump and a gallop from the show grounds of the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (home to the annual Winter Equestrian Festival). If the Gates family is looking to expand on their equestrian-focused land holdings, we suggest they look no further than these incredible equestrian ranches and estates for sale on Lands of America.

E.A. Ranches in southern California’s San Diego County is a beautiful, 913-acre legacy ranch that was established in 1977 by Ernie and Lisa Auerbach. Currently owned by their two daughters, E.A. Ranches is on the market for the first time in its history and represents the opportunity for a buyer to own a full-service, state-of-the-art equestrian training and breeding facility. Amenities include a 5/8-mile racetrack and three miles of trails, separate barns for training, breeding, lay-ups and foaling and well-maintained grounds and living facilities (including a welcoming six-bedroom main home).

WASHINGTON COUNTY | OREGON | $6,900,000 | PROPERTY ID: 2036782

Two hundred miles due south of Gates’ former Microsoft HQ in Redmond, Washington, Quailhurst Vineyard Estate feels a world away from the software giant’s futuristic tech focus. The estate’s rolling 34 acres combine vineyards of Pinot noir grapes with horse paddocks, indoor and outdoor show arenas and accommodations and facilities for large events and conventions. Located in Oregon’s wine-centric Willamette Valley region, the property’s jumping and dressage arena look out toward the unmistakable cone of 11,250-foot Mount Hood and Oregon’s Cascade Mountains.

OCONEE COUNTY | GEORGIA | $6,900,000 | PROPERTY ID: 2036782

Georgia’s Brookwood Equestrian Center is a full-service horse training and boarding facility that’s well-positioned to serve the area’s equestrian community. The 25-acre estate features three barns with stalls, grooming facilities and tack and washrooms. On property, 19 paddocks give the horses room to roam, while double- and single-wide mobile homes as well as a pair of small two-bedroom homes and a barn apartment provide horse owners with overnight lodging facilities. The center is located 12 miles of Athens, Georgia, home to the University of Georgia and its new equine medical facility.

WASHINGTON COUNTY | PENNSYLVANIA | $4,500,000 | PROPERTY ID: 2423530

Located in the rolling, pastoral fields of western Pennsylvania, this 37-acre property offers the right buyer a state-of-the-art, turnkey equestrian breeding and training operation that was built only eight years ago. To date, the 50-stall center has been focused on breeding Arabian thoroughbreds in a facility that includes a climate-controlled indoor arena, dedicated vet and farrier wings and an expansive 40,755-square-foot equestrian center. The horses aren’t the only ones enjoying high-end living, mind you. A beautifully-appointed three bedroom home is equipped with its own floor for entertaining guests, including a sumptuous wine cellar.

VOLUSIA COUNTY | FLORIDA | $10,180,000 | PROPERTY ID: 3173830

If the Gates family tires of life smack-dab in the heart of Florida’s equestrian community, they might look north to the more laid-back environs of New Smyrna Beach, and its inland Pioneer Trail Reserve. Here, amidst a tranquil 690-acre estate bordered by the protected wetlands of the Longleaf Pine Preserve, a dedicated horse community enjoys access to a 45,000-square-foot riding arena, 22 state-of-the-art stalls, paddocks and pastureland plus miles of secluded riding trails. Over 20 ranch allotments on the property promise gated, equestrian-focused living on plots ranging in size from 14 to 65 acres.
