Listing of the Week: Ghurka Founder Marley Hodgson Lists His Colorado Guest Ranch for $8.3 Million

A stunning wilderness property nestled within a valley of the West Elk Wilderness in the Colorado Rockies, Smith Fork Ranch was assembled and designed by Ghurka leather goods founder Marley Hodgson.

Currently in business as a mountain guest ranch, offering everything from hiking and horseback riding to clay-shooting and fly-fishing, Smith Fork Ranch could continue life as an exclusive turnkey retreat or provide the basis for an extremely private family compound.

The Marley family acquired the land in the early 2000s, although not originally with the intention of running it as a guest ranch.

“We wanted to get far away from Manhattan. We had no intention of opening a hotel,” Hodgson said in a 2016 interview with Forbes.com. “But then our son got married here, and we had staff, and so we opened a hotel.”

A member of the Dude Ranchers’ Association, Smith Fork Ranch promises rustic luxury amidst a true Western experience. Located between Aspen and Telluride along Colorado’s rugged Western Slope, the ranch includes three miles of the Gunnison River’s Smith Fork as well as six stocked trout ponds. Miles of hiking, equestrian and mountain biking trails thread throughout the 250-acre property, as well as out into the rugged mountain wilderness beyond.

Boasting three cabins, two log guest homes, expansive entertaining amenities as well as owner’s and staff quarters, Smith Fork Ranch was listed for sale for $8.3 million on August 1, 2018, via Coldwell Banker Mason Morse’s Jack Pretti.
