In an area of ancient volcanic buttes that rise sharply above farmland irrigated by waterways feeding into the Snake River, this remote and rustic area is known for wildlife and outdoor recreation including hiking, hunting, fishing, camping and more. Lake Owyhee State Park, several miles south of this off-grid property, is a scenic 53-mile-long desert canyon reservoir offering camping, boating and fishing.

Located in the southeastern corner of Oregon, over 90 percent of Malheur County is rangeland, with the Bureau of Land Management controlling almost three-quarters of this land. With an economy that is dependent on agriculture, and tourism to a lesser degree, the most intensive farming occurs in the northeastern part of the county in what is known regionally as “Treasure Valley” (a nickname given to the fertile area fed by the Snake River and its various tributaries, including the Owyhee River and irrigation through the Owyhee River dam).
