Listing of the Week: Historic 19th-Century Inn for Sale in Central Tennessee

Listed for sale at $2 million on November 29, Tennessee’s Peacock Inn dates back to before the Civil War and offers a serene country escape only 40 miles south of Nashville. The 65-acre estate is located in Williamson County, a mostly rural area centered around the nearby town of Franklin.

The property’s main house is a single-story, five-bedroom structure that exudes nostalgic comfort as well as historic charm. Most recently it served as four-diamond-rated bed and breakfast for visitors to the area. An additional two-bedroom carriage house, built in 1998, plus small 1950s granary with a single bedroom and bathroom offers extra lodging amenities for families or as a continuation of the inn as a commercial B&B.

The well-tended grounds take full advantage of the rolling countryside and Middle Tennessee scenery to provide a tranquil retreat from any lingering 21st-century stresses. A small in-ground pool and newly installed tennis court add some recreation into the mix.

Along with the legendary live music scene in Nashville—aka, Music City—this region of Tennessee is celebrated for its down-home Americana culture as well as Civil War history and heritage (the Battle of Franklin in December 1864 was among the war’s bloodiest).

A section of the 444-mile-long Natchez Trace Parkway skirts through Williamson County to the west of Franklin. The Trace is an historic route that has been used over the centuries by everyone from American Indians to European settlers to slave traders. Today, it’s a popular regional attraction traversing Tennessee and Mississippi for scenic drives and cycling, as well as horseback riding and hiking along the route’s surrounding trails and byways.
