Veale Ranch is a unique real-estate opportunity just 11 miles from downtown Fort Worth, Texas. Occupying 3,790 acres across Tarrant and Parker counties, the working cattle ranch has been owned by the Veale family since 1935. It was recently listed for sale at $95 million through Republic Ranches.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal announcing the ranch sale, Republic Ranches’ Bryan Pickens noted the property could be “maintained as a ranch, or could become a fully master-planned community with a capacity, if developed, for 33,000 residents.”
Several residential properties are scattered throughout the ranch, offering comfortable amenities like a media room, swimming pool as well as equestrian facilities including a horse barn and riding arena.
Bordering the Fort Worth city limits, the ranch retains a wild feel through its acres of mostly prairieland looking out toward the city skyline. Currently the property is stocked with Brangus cows, bred to Hereford and Angus bulls (this cattle inventory is available for sale with a separate contract).
In the Wall Street Journal article, one of the current owners, David Ekstrom, notes that the decision to sell was taken after the lifestyles and interests of younger family members had diverged from the Veale family’s cattle-ranching roots. “Mine and Ward’s generation are ready to pass the management of the property on, but the next generation of our family are pursuing their own interests, from construction management to cybersecurity to social psychology,” he said.
Fort Worth is the heart of the Texas cattle-ranching industry, featuring the famous Stockyards National Historic District and twice-daily cattle drives. Cattle sales and production are by far the biggest Texas agricultural commodity, representing over $10 billion in cash receipts according to 2012 U.S. Census Bureau figures.
