Listing of the Week: Luxury B&B for Sale in Oregon’s Willamette Valley Wine Region

Set within the Dundee Hills American Viticultural Area (AVA), the eight-bedroom Le Puy is an established luxury bed-and-breakfast serving as an elegant and relaxing gateway to Oregon’s popular Willamette Valley Wine Region.

Known throughout the world for the quality of its Pinot noirs, over 70 percent of the 700-plus vineyards in the Willamette Valley are planted with Pinot noir grapes. With vines here first planted in the late 1960s, the Dundee Hills AVA is known in wine circles as the epicenter of Oregon Pinot noir.

A few miles west of Newberg, Le Puy sits on ten acres of rolling farmland abutted by the vines of several local vineyards. The current owners, two LEED-certified architects, purchased the property as a single family residence and developed it over the years into one of the area’s most recognizable lodging options. It currently holds a five-out-of-five TripAdvisor rating as Newberg’s top B&B.

Designed to create “a holistic, sustainable inn,” the property includes a series of calming courtyards and gardens including a demonstration vineyard, edible garden and signature sunflowers. Le Puy’s sunflower logo was inspired by the sunflower fields of France’s Loire Valley, the region from which the inn also takes its name after the small country village of Le Puy Notre Dame.

The Craftsman-style main home includes eight guestrooms offering modern comfort as well as individual touches that hew to each room’s nature-inspired motifs such as Air, Earth and Water. A series of common areas for relaxing and dining bring guests and owners together, while a separate living area for the innkeepers offers privacy. The inn also features a 2,200-square-foot barn currently in use for hosting private events, which could be modified to provide additional facility or living space.

Sheltered to the north by the Chehalem Mountains,  Dundee Hills AVA’s mild climate, precipitation and soil conditions make this an ideal wine-cultivating terroir. Located in Yamhill County, the area is less than 30 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon, so makes for a popular day- and weekend-trip destination for visitors and locals alike. The Willamette Valley stretches 100 miles south from Portland to Eugene and includes 21,793 acres of vineyards. The region’s first Pinot noir planting was at David Lett’s Eyrie Vineyards in 1965, located in McMinnville just 15 miles southwest of the Le Puy B&B.

Le Puy A Wine Valley Inn was listed for sale on February 19, 2018, through Kelly Hagglund of Newberg, Oregon-based Kelly Group Real Estate.
