The sweeping 83,368-acre Cielo Vista Ranch in Colorado’s San Luis Valley was sold last Friday to an undisclosed buyer, making it the largest recorded land sale in 2017. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Boasting its own Colorado “Fourteener” in the shape of 14,053-foot Culebra Peak, Cielo Vista also lays claim to home of the highest privately-owned peak in the world. Another 18 peaks over 13,000 feet top the spectacular deeded acreage, which covers four life zones from Rockies foothills to alpine mountaintops.

The listing brokers, Mirr Ranch Group’s Jeff Hubbard and Pat Lancaster, have both guided wildlife hunts throughout the property over the past two decades, bringing an intimate understanding of the land and its ecosystem to bear during the sale process. Cielo Vista first hit the market in September 2015.

“The profile of the buyer is absolutely ideal,” said Hubbard in a press release announcing the sale. “He is one who is a true conservationist and is deeply committed to preserving this national treasure and extraordinary resource.”

Denver-based Mirr Ranch Group has a reputation for brokering significant ranch and land sales to conservation-oriented buyers throughout the American West, including sales such as those of Trees Ranch adjoining Zion National Park in southern Utah and the Mantle Ranch, an in-holding in Dinosaur National Monument. The firm is currently seeking a similar buyer profile for the 56,050-deeded-acre Cross Mountain Ranch in northwest Colorado, which spans four counties, over 224,000 acres and offers more than 20 miles of pristine river frontage.

“We aim to find good stewards of the land for these unique landscapes, and keep working ranches working,” notes Mirr Ranch Group owner/broker Ken Mirr of the Cielo Vista sale. “We are proud of our seller and in the buyer we found and believe the buyer will continue a legacy of stewardship at Cielo Vista Ranch.”

Along with being the cover star of the winter 2015 issue of LAND magazine, Cielo Vista Ranch more recently appeared among both the 10 Biggest Ranches for Sale in America and the 10 Most Expensive Ranches for Sale in America.
