Congratulations to Nick Cortese of Fallon-Cortese Land for his sale this week of 29,162-acre Ladron Mountain Ranch. Located in the New Mexico’s Socorro County, this large desert ranch was sold on July 25, 2017, and was submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.

The working cattle ranch on the high-desert plateau of central New Mexico is located about 55 miles south of Albuquerque. A mix of mountain slopes and canyons running down from 9,186-foot Ladron Mountain to surrounding desert flats and grasslands, the ranch is equipped to support almost 300 cattle on mostly BLM-leased acreage (24,582 acres; 2,663 acres of the property is deeded land).
Although the previous rancher only owned the property for several years prior to this sale (having relocated his business to Arizona), a number of new wells were brought into operation on the ranch plus additional wells are available to increase the water-carrying capacity of the ranch.
Cone-shaped Ladron Mountain is considered a “sky island,” offering a unique ecosystem to support distinct wildlife species including mountain lions, bears, pronghorn, elk, deer and reintroduced desert bighorn sheep.
