Congratulations to Southern Forestry Realty for their sale of 1,400-acre Seaboard Timberlands in Florida’s Jefferson County. The $2.5-million sale on January 17 was the largest land sale based on data submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program over the past seven days.
With neighbors that include Ted Turner’s Avalon Plantation and the 54,000-acre Aucilla Game Preserve, this north-central Florida property offers seclusion in a tranquil, natural setting. It has been carefully managed for its timber assets as well as recreational offerings.
With several creeks, natural hardwoods, and planted and natural pine, this property holds a healthy resident population of deer, turkey, and ducks. A two-acre pond is one of several water features on the site.
Extending from the Florida-Georgia line to the Gulf Coast, Jefferson County bills itself as “Florida’s Keystone County.” Located to the east of Tallahassee, it’s an area of rolling countryside dotted with oaks draped in Spanish moss. With a more temperate climate compared to other parts of Florida, the county lends itself to sports and outdoor recreation including fishing and hunting.
Historic plantations and estates like Ted Turner’s Avalon Plantation rub shoulders with productive beef and dairy farms, as well as a number of private hunting preserves. Three major rivers, the Wacissa, Aucilla and St. Marks, run through the county, framed by miles of quiet forest and marshlands. The Wacissa River has been designated as a state canoe trail by the Florida Department of Natural Resources.
