Looking out toward the distinctive buttes of the region’s Sweet Grass Hills, the ranch offers a mix of grazing pasture and fields for wheat and barley in a county that’s almost entirely focused on agriculture. Indeed, the 1,450-square-mile county (population: approx. 2,400) can trace its farming roots back to the early homesteader days of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The county seat of Chester is about 30 miles south of the property, while the Canadian border is only several miles to the north.
